Faculty of Economics, 2nd year of Master degree, an exchange student from Finland, the University of Turku.
I am a final year student at the University of Turku, Finland. Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov I trained under the program of academic mobility. I chose the university for a long time, and I chose ENU because of the good reputation, the university is large and there is always something going on.
Arriving for the first time in Astana, they met me at the airport and helped with resettlement. I was very pleased that they made my arrival so comfortable and I did not have to worry about housing and mobility. In problem situations, I can always go to the staff of the university. Especially in matters of official problems the student organization Peer Tutoring Program "I AM FOREIGNER" helped me so much.
My specialization is International Business. Though there is no exact program in the ENU for my specialization I have no problem. I found many interesting courses to my specialization in Russian and English languages. Also I attend Turkish language courses.
Two months of studying in ENU I'm pleasantly surprised that close and familial relationships between students and teachers well developed. This is another feature of the ENU. The number of students in class is small and it is possible to dialogue between the students and the lecturer. In Finland, the number of students in groups are often very large and the relationship between students and teachers stays away.
I was very surprised by the fact that substantially all of the lectures are held in the evening. I, as a lover of sleeping, it is good and I have the whole day free to explore the city, preparing assignments. Lectures are divided into two parts. In the first part the lecturer presents the material and in the second, seminar of the students to discuss this topic. The changes every hour to help focus on the lesson. Also speaking at the seminar, students also send their work to teachers, I always forget to do. In Finland usually lasts just a presentation of his work. Luckily there are teachers to the students with the understanding! Materials for the study subjects are given in the classroom, which is very convenient. Exams I have not handed over, but I heard that they will be orally. In Finland, all exams are written, even electronically, so that the oral exam will be an interesting experience for me.
The University is very convenient, and movement between different buildings is made simple. The dormitory is within walking distance of the university. The university dormitories and many places allocated for preparation for classes, such as reading rooms. The university also excellent dining, which can be inexpensive and tasty snack.
Kazakhs surprised me with its openness, despite the fact that I warned about the closure of Astana residents. Compared with Finland, here are all very friendly and hospitable. My new local friends have taken me to Borovoy and different museums and we are pleased to spend time after school. They taught me a lot new things about Kazakhstan, its people and culture.
I am very glad that I have the opportunity to learn about the new capital, Astana, and personally see how the young capital, the great hospitality, a lot of cultural and multi-ethnic country - Kazakhstan and become a member of a large family of ENU.
