Name and legacy of Lev N. Gumilyov

at the Eurasian National University

The meaning of my life was partly expressed in paying tribute to the people of Eurasia, whom I liked sincerely.

Lev N. Gumilyov is a prominent scientist and thinker of the XX century. His treatises on history of Eurasia, as well as history of Turkic and Slavic, Asian and European nations develop the interdisciplinary direction in science, which can be determined as “Eurasian studies” and subject of which is history of countries, peoples, cultures and languages of the Eurasian region. In this respect LN. Gumilyov is a researcher of Eurasian studies, who overcame the scientific edge between oriental and Russia studies, and brought together Turkic and Slavic studies.

The legacy of L.N. Gumilyov is essential and actual in the political and international sense and scientific and historical basis for the Eurasian idea as a world-view and conception of interstate and interethnic relations in the terms of regional integration and globalization. And in this point the Eurasian idea of L.N. Gumilyov coincides with that of N.A. Nazarbayev.

The legacy of L.N. Gumilyov, taken in the context of a wide range of historical-civilization, ethno-social, political-economic issues (both retrospective and perspective), requires scientific interpretation for the Eurasian peoples’ benefit.

Proceeding from the abovementioned, the Eurasian National University pays tribute to the name and intellectual legacy of Lev N. Gumilyov.
