Preparation of experts in a specialty "Informatics science" at the Eurasian National University named after L.N.Gumilev is conducted since 2000 - is one of the first opened IT HIGH SCHOOL specialties. The Department «Theoretical Informatics» was formed by division of the Computer Science Department in February, 2011.

The normative length of study in the directions for full-time majoring in “050602 – Informatics science” is 4 years.
Specialty «Computer science» has been studying principles of creation mathematical and software of computers, systems and networks and their applications in automated and industrial installations, and in the data processing systems.
Towards specialty refer researches and developments on the following directions: Models and methods of encoding, representation and organization of data, knowledge and structures:
1. Algorithms and their mathematical models, algorithmic (verbal and visual) languages and their levels and task – oriented, methods of evaluations the complexity of the algorithms.
2. Procedural, functional, productional, logical, object-oriented and parallel programming languages, languages of data descriptions.
3. Languages of data manipulations, languages of knowledge representations, natural languages.
4. Classical and Fuzzy computer’s logics, grammars, automata, neural networks and other formal mechanisms, method of translations, interpreters, compilers and emulators.
5. Methods of designing and creating of systemic mathematical and software (operation systems, programming system, database and knowledge management systems).
6. Methods of designing and creating of mathematical and software of knowledge management systems, e-learning and knowledge control, image processing, treatment and recovery of data, decision – making and other systems of artificial intelligence, including expert systems.
7. Methodology and technology of programming, including automation of programming, debugging, verifications, and optimization of software, tool systems of productions quality (correct, reliable and efficient) systems.
8. Interactive, multimedia and intelligent systems and networks, verbal, graphic and speech user interfaces; Mathematical and software of information and software security from unauthorized use, reverse engineering and modifications, including using the methods of cryptography, as well as theory and practice of coding, data compression and the equivalent transformation algorithms.
