History of the department
In 1999, under the guidance of Professor Kaskabasova S.A. was the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Eurasian University named after L.N. Gumilev. The faculty had three departments:
- Department of Arabic Studies and Iranian Studies
- Department of Sinology and Japanese
- Department of Foreign Languages
In 2000, the Faculty of Oriental Studies was renamed to the department of Oriental Studies at the Institute of International Relations of the Eurasian State University named after L.N. Gumilev. The department specialists teaching students oriental languages, such as: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Persian, Urdu and Hindi.
In 2009, the Department of Oriental Studies was merged with the Department of Regional Studies under the title Department of Regional Studies Faculty of International Relations. After the department became an independent department of Oriental Studies in 2010.
Department of Oriental Studies of the charge holder of the title "Pride of Eurasia - 2009", Ph.D., associate professor Tuleubaeva Samal Abaevna, the department has Professor and Dr Masimhanuly D., Professor Dr. Syzdykov S. M. Most of the teachers of the department to study abroad or had language training.
The department trains specialists:
- In education as a teacher of Oriental Studies;
- In the sphere of international information and analytical sciences;
- In state and local government;
- National Security and Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- In the sphere of ideology and culture.

Basic education of all teachers meets the requirement of the specialty license.
Teachers of the department are taught in Russian, Kazakh, Chinese, Arabic, Japanese.
In the 2009-10 school year, the total number of faculty of the Department of Oriental Studies was 17 people, including 2 doctors, 4 PhDs, 3 of them are associate professors and 3 Masters. 1 external works part-time.
Educational Activities
Educational Activities at the Department with all relevant external and internal planning documents and standardization of the educational process: maintained in accordance state standart of education, model programs.
At the department of instruction for the preparation of the following specialties:
• 050209-Oriental - Bachelor (4 years) in the Kazakh and Russian offices.
• 5M020900-Oriental - Master's degree (1 and 2 years) in the Kazakh and Russian offices.
In the 2009-10 school year, the number of students majoring in Oriental Studies (BA) was 95 people, and a degree in Oriental Studies (MA) 2 people.
Number of students in the state language has reached 39 people.
The educational process of all forms and types of education involves training, lectures, seminars, MLTS and the OSW, the organization of educational practice, research students and undergraduates.
From year to year, material and technical equipment increasing of the educational process, implemented by the department. Teachers of the department successfully use master the latest technology training: create electronic textbooks, train and video lectures.
In the future department plans to launch courses in the doctoral degree PhD in Oriental Studies.
Teachers solid educational and methodological base and international scientific relations with foreign universities in Japan, China, Jordan, etc.
The scientific work of the department carried out several research directions. Seven members of the department participate in the preparation of research projects. At the department operates a methodological seminar led by Master Uteulieva G.K.
Teachers of the department published Scientific papers in the of foreign and domestic scientific journals. The results of scientific research of the faculty indicate established and stable operating research groups under the guidance of leading teachers.
The department carries out joint activities with foreign partners through the development of monographs, textbooks, teachers of the department participate in various scientific conferences, as well as in the form of attracting foreign colleagues to participate in conferences held in ENU named after L.N. Gumilev.
Scientific and practical activity at the Department of
At the Department actively supportes the research work of students, undergraduates and other young scientists. It is being implemented in the educational process through in each group conference, "round tables" in the course of practical training. At seminars and students present papers and abstracts.
Training on specialty by experienced teachers who speak foreign languages, have solid work experience.
