Teaching staff
Lectures and seminars are taught on the highest levels of education, by experienced scientists and practical workers such as the chairman of the department who is a famous television figure Gadilbek Shalakhmetov, the widely popular anchorwoman Rabiga Amanzholova, the well-known television director Sholpan Baymoldina, also the renowned scholar Rahima Nuriden. They share their experience and knowledge with students and the skills of professional journalism.
Generally, our teaching staff consists of 14 teachers, with 1 academic, 1 doctor of science, 4 associate professors, 3 senior teachers with masters degrees and 5 experienced senior teachers with bachelor degree.
History of Department
The Television Radio and Public Relations Department was established by University Scientific Council’s decision in 2009, to meet the rising demands for the modern media market in Kazakhstan. Today our graduates are hired by television companies, radio stations, press centers and PR departments of different organizations all over Kazakhstan.

In the department’s method of journalism profession teaching is occupied primarily by specific teaching modules. Students are taught the disciplines which are related to features of use of language in television, radio context, internet-journalism, projecting in public relations, media organization, advertisement technologies, theory of public image and many other different disciplines.

Also, government organizations such as the Republic of Kazakhstan’s primary court press service, the Republic of Kazakhstan’s information and networking agency press service, Republic of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of culture and information, and many others, annually support us in teaching students practical skills, allowing future professionals in public relations to apply their theoretical knowledge in advertising agencies and publishing houses.

International cooperation
The department’s teachers are in constant correspondence and contact with foreign institutions and universities, as nowadays the department is actively cooperating with the Television and Radio Journalism department in the Russian Humanitarian University (Russia), also with the International Television and Radio Academy (Russia). Our teaching staff has an opportunity to exchange their research and pedagogical experience with specialist departments of partner universities, and also to receive consulting help.
Overall, the active work of our department in the international sphere gives us an opportunity to optimize teaching and educational processes, thus giving the ability to bridge the gap between academic taught courses and the modern requirements in journalism and public relations sectors.
Theoretical and practical activities
The department holds different scientific activities. Regularly, the Television Radio and PR Department organizes seminars, conferences, training, and we also receive participation from scholars and practical workers.
The team at the department have initiated and co-organizer of two events: «International theoretical seminar: Media in strengthening of ethnic tolerance» (November, 2009) and International theoretical and practical conference «Kazakhstan and principle of four T», both events were received as crucial and of high significance.
In addition, the Television Radio and PR Department pays special attention to teaching the practical skills. Training in the university’s television and radio studio is an integral part of the students’ apprenticeship, as practical lessons help future specialist to demonstrate and practice their knowledge as well as having the tools to make decisions during their future career.
Postgraduate studies
In 2008 the Television Radio and PR department opened postgraduate level studies. Advanced 2 year MSc course «6N0504 Journalism» in both Russian and Kazakh languages. Since 2009 the department has offered MSc degrees awarded in 1 year with profession in a short intensive course in the same area of study.
