The faculty of journalism and political science was established under the decision of the University Academic Council by rector’s order № 704-zh on May 5th, 2010.
Actively introducing new educational techniques, process of study at the faculty combines rich traditions and experience of journalistic and political scientific knowledge which were accumulated during existence of departments of journalism and political sciences, and applies new technologies and principles of education. Well-known journalists carry out master-classes in the faculty, for example, founder and first president of the Interstate Broadcasting Company "Mir" Gadilbek Shalakhmetov, member of the World Organization on Mass Communication and Journalism of ORBICOM at UNESCO and winner of the Premium of President of Kazakhstan Namazaly Omashev, president of joint-stock company “Republican newspaper “Egemen Kazakstan” Sauytbek Abdrakhmanov, as well as well-known political scientists: Adviser of Education Minister, doctor of political sciences Venera Zheksembekova; Chairman of Dissertational Board, doctor of political sciences, professor Zhanylzhan Dzhunusova, 1 academician of NA HS RK, 3 academicians of Academy of Journalism, 10 doctors of sciences, 21 candidates of sciences, 1 PhD doctor, 4 owners of grant of the Education and Science Ministry “The Best Teacher of High School”, 2 honored workers and 4 owners of "People of Culture in Kazakhstan” title.
Faculty members participate in international scientific conferences, symposiums and become owners of the international grants.

The faculty has three departments – department of teleradio and public relations, department of press and publishing, department of political science.
The department of teleradio and public relations was established on February 26th 2009.
Head of the department is Gadilbek Shalakhmetov, academician of the Journalism Academy of Kazakhstan. Well-known scientists and journalists-experts teach at the department: doctor of philological sciences, professor Takhan S.Sh., candidates of philological sciences, docents: Nuriden R.Sh., Turzhan O.I., Yesenbek U.M., candidate of political sciences, docent - Kassen M., well-known and talented TV and radio journalists – Amanzholova R.K., Tampayeva T.M., Baimuldina Sh.K., Kazygulov Sh., Karakozova G.A., and others.
The department trains the following specialists:
- specialists in television and radio journalism,
- television and radio presenters,
- experts of business journalism,
- managers in mass media,
- producers,
- advertising agents,
- public relations specialists,
- specialists for press services.
Department of press and publishing was established in 1998. Winner of the National Prize of Kazakhstan Akseleu Seydimbek made a great contribution to development and formation of the department. Man of art of Kazakhstan, candidate of philological sciences Kairat Sak heads the department.
The department trains the following specialists:
- correspondents for newspapers and magazines.
- correspondents for news agencies,
- literary workers of mass-media,
- literary editors,
- technical editors,
- managers for book industry.

The department of political science was established in 1999 for realization of educational programs in political science.
Yelena Nechayeva, docent, candidate of political sciences manages the department. The teaching staff of the department is represented by doctors of political sciences: Dzhunusova Zh.K., Kaliev N.K., Nurtazina R.A., Kalieva M.S., docents - Askeeva G.B., Kenzhebaeva K.K., Zhanataeva U.K., Ilipov M.T., Onuchko M.Y., PhD doctor Sabitov Zh.M, etc.
The graduate in political science may work as:
· lecturer in secondary and secondary professional educational institutions.
PhD Doctorate. Eurasian National University has been chosen as a base university for introduction of the state program for PhD doctors’ preparation in Journalism and Political Science. Realization of the experimental program is carried out in cooperation with leading foreign high schools in Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Latvia, Netherlands, Russia, France, Sweden, Italy, Israel, Japan, Korea, USA, Canada, Turkey, China, Ukraine, Poland, and Bulgaria.
