Welcome to ENU!
Faculty of Journalism and Political Science has appeared recently, but it has already organized a massive event. This confirms the high potential of teachers and students of this faculty once again.
But everything is in the regular course. American society is welcomed by the international community at all times. No matter what industry, but discussions with the United States has always represented a special interest. The faculty of journalism and political science met the guests from University of Nebraska with a special friendliness. This meeting was organized specifically for students and exchange of professional experiences of teachers. In addition to guests from Kazakhstan the following people were present: Head of the Department “Publishing and printing” K.O. Sack, tutors of departments “Teleradio and public relations” and “Publishing and printing”, as well as students of journalism and political science. Conference with the U.S. and Kazakhstani journalism students was devoted to the peculiarities of journalistic sectors, its development in the United States and Kazakhstan, the theory and practice of teaching journalism.
Many of the students of the University of Nebraska were students of the Faculty of photojournalism, photography. They are the ambitious young people who see the world in the format of a digital camera. And, respectively, the most interesting topic for discussion for them is the development of photography in Kazakhstan. “Art - is one of those industries, which is almost on the verge of extinction, but at the same time is very popular, - said Joseph Weber, Associate Professor of Journalism and Mass Media University of Nebraska. - We used to look at the photographer as a person, who makes money by removing the models, but it's not just flipping the button, it is a very laborious process”. If, however, U.S. universities have separate departments of photography, then we are only beginning to recognize this industry as a science.
After talking with the students, it was nice to know that Kazakhstan seemed to them odd special, in every sense. The Americans were happy to hospitality and good nature of the Kazakhstani people. “You have an interesting country, we were in Africa, and Korsak, but we have never seen such a unique and rich culture, as you have here. We were touched on several topics, and we even filmed the story on children's homes”, - third year student Isabel has admitted.
The theme of Internet did not give a wide berth, which is currently very topical. Indeed, the development of Internet technology has had a strong influence on journalism. The Internet is a specific new feature in obtaining and transmitting information. A common format of the book fades into the background, more and more freeing space for online publications.
Students and faculty also had the opportunity to learn more about employment of overseas peers. “The main problem, after graduation, is, of course, the search for work. Although we prefer some sort of separate direction, yet the employer requires us versatility. All this ultimately leads to the fact that a journalist in the United States should be universal”,- Michael, an American student, shared his opinion.
At the end of the informal meeting of Kazakh and American students, it was decided to consolidate familiarity by evening stroll and dinner.
