Research fellowship tour to the Institute of Russian Studies, Warsaw University
In April-May 2010 Takhan Serik Sheshenbay-uly, Doctor of Philology, Professor at the Department of Television and Radio Journalism and Public Relations, was on a research fellowship tour to the Institute of Russian Studies, Warsaw University (Poland), under the Bolashak Presidential Scholarship Program.
The main goal of the research fellowship was to complete the theoretical chapter “Anthropology and Fiction” for the monograph titled “Problems of anthropology in the fiction literatures of Eurasia”. Also, materials were gathered and compiled for the elective courses for undergraduate candidates for a Master’s Degree on the topics: "The text and the fiction world," “A publicistic image as an artistic and aesthetic category."
Dr Takhan participated in a conference titled “Russian language in contemporary Russia" (13-14 May 2010) organized by the Institute of Russian Studies at the Warsaw University. At the Institute of Russian Studies, Warsaw University, Dr Takhan attended three public lectures by foreign professors: Professor Emmanuel Vaademansa from the Belgian University (“Moscow-Petushki” by Erofeev: on the problem of cult literature"); Deputy editor of the journal "The Banner" (Russia), Doctor of Philology, Professor N. Ivanov ("Review of modern Russian literature"); Doctor of History, Professor S. Sereda (Ukraine) ("Problems of historical anthropology").
Dr Takhan participated in a roundtable of the Department of Television and Radio Journalism, Warsaw University, on the topic: "The language of modern electronic media. "
S. S. Takhan prepared and delivered a lecture at the Institute of Russian Studies, Warsaw University, titled: "The Kazakh theme in Russian literature" Such realistic works by Nikolai Leskov, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, as "The Enchanted Wanderer , "Anna Karenina","The House of the Dead" were discussed in the aspects of both the figurative embodiment of the natural and domestic habitat and national psychology of the Kazakh people in the nineteenth century, as well as the reflection of its socio-historical situation at that period.
Pursuant to the plan of the research fellowship Dr Takhan wrote and submitted two scientific articles for inclusion in the publications of «Studia Rossica» (as part of participation in the research projects of the Institute of Russian Studies, Warsaw University, namely "The Ego-document and Literature, “Russian literature in the early twenty-first century - new names, themes, genres, trends”.

Report on the research internship of 2nd year PhD. student Maksut Kuralay
During the period of 1-28 November 2010 Maksut Kuralay held the research internshipat the Institute of International Affairs, Center for East European Studies the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia).
The University of Economics in Bratislava (UEB), established in 1940 as the Slovak Higher School of Commerce, is one of the most important educational and scientific-research institutions in the Slovak Republic.
Today UEB is actively developing cooperation with foreign universities on various programs, but also paying a great attention to the quality of ongoing training and further work placement of its graduates. At the 6 faculties are more than 14,000 students. At the UEB are established various research centers, summer schools, traditionally held the course of "Diplomacy in Practice", etc.
According to the program of an internship I was involved in a range of different tasks – participated in scientific conferences in Bratislava and Berlin, also at lectures by heads of diplomatic missions of Greece and Norway at the Slovak Republic. During the internshipI had an opportunity to have meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (Department of CIS and Caucasus countries), with members of the Slovak Foreign Policy organization, as well as with representatives of the Centre for Eastern European Studies.
Following the meeting with the director of the Center for Eastern European Studies Dr. J. Kultan it has been agreed on establishment of cooperation between two universities in areas of mutual interest. For example, joint on-line seminars, lectures, etc.
