On February 9, 2019 on the basis of the school-lyceum No. 72 of Astana, the Department of Foreign Philology of the Faculty of Philology of the ENU, with the support of the Education Department of Akimat of Astana city, conducted for the third time a visiting subject Olympiad in foreign languages for graduates of secondary schools and secondary educational institutions. A distinctive feature of this year's Olympiad was the regional status of participants. A total number of participants are 283, among them students from several schools of Karaganda and Karaganda Region, Pavlodar and Ekibastuz, the Akmola Region and Astana. A large number of participants distinguished themselves from such schools as “Zhas Ulan”, “Zerde”, NIS, RFMSH, “Miras”, lyceum “Bilim”, International College, gymnasiums № 5, 46, 67, 4, 72, 76, etc. Total number of participants English (247 people), German (28 people) and French (8 people).
The purpose of the competition was vocational guidance of the department among graduates of secondary schools of the region. The program of the Olympiad consisted of several parts: opening ceremony, 1 round, 2 round and closing ceremony. The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was held at 10:00 in the morning. The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Innovations of ENU. L.N. Gumilyov B.Zh. The Head of the Department of Foreign Philology A.E. Bizhkenova, in her welcoming speech spoked about the importance of such events to identify the level of proficiency in foreign languages and determine the place of future education for school graduates. She expressed her gratitude for the cooperation of the leadership and staff of the school-lyceum №72 and donated the works of the faculty of the department of foreign philology to the library of this school.
The Vice-Rector Somzhurek B.ZH. stressed the distinctive prospects for the development of the Eurasian National University, focusing on his international ratings and the growing processes of internationalization. He also expressed gratitude to Lyceum № 72 for the assistance rendered in the conduct of the Olympiad and handed over a letter of thanks to the director of the lyceum G. Zhusupova.
Ms. Kaskabaeva R.K., speaking on behalf of the city education management, also noted the invaluable role of the national university in youth education. Dean of the Faculty of Philology Zharkynbekova Sh.K. spoke about the faculty, as one of the leading educational structures of the university, engaged in fundamental training of specialists in philology. Director of the school-lyceum №72 Zhusupova G.A. hoped for further cooperation with the departments of ENU. All the speakers wished good luck to the participants.
The first round of the Olympiad consisted of written assignments for listening, reading and performing the lexical and grammatical test in English, German and French. After checking the written answers of the jury of the Olympiad, which included experienced teachers of the Department of Foreign Philology Ospanova R.I., Akzhigitova A.Sh., Kazbekova M.K., Ormanova A.B., Zhamanaeva G.N., Beysembayeva G.Z., Kabenova D.M., 30 people were admitted to the second round of the Olympiad. The second round consisted of an interview on one of the selected topics.
The winners of the regional Olympiad in English, German and French are:
1st place - Nygmetova Malik, a student of the school-gymnasium "Zerde";
2nd place - Saadat Rakhmatullaeva, student of secondary school No. 59 and Alpysbes Nursay, student of secondary school No. 48;
3rd place - Adilbayeva Ayazhan, Aimasheva Malik, students of the school-gymnasium No. 5 and Maulenuly Madi, student of the school-lyceum No. 72.
1st place - Kumar Akzhayik, a pupil of the 11th grade of the school-gymnasium №46 of Astana;
2nd place - Gusak Daria, a student of grade 11 of the gymnasium №46 of Astana;
3rd place - Baikenov Dias, a pupil of the 11th grade of school-gymnasium №46 of Astana.
1st place - Tutinbaeva Madina, student of secondary school №4;
2nd place - Bekbolatkyzy Assem, student of NIS;
3rd place - Mardan Nursat, student of secondary school №3.
Chairman of the jury Bizhkenova A.E. congratulated all the winners and presented them diplomas and valuable gifts.
