On February 20-21, 2020, at the Department of Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Communication of the MGIMO University, Odintsovo Branch, the International Practical Science Conference «LANGUAGE. CULTURE. TRANSLATION» was held. The conference was attended by representatives of 12 countries, Moscow universities, academic institutes, Russian universities which involved in the linguistic preparation of students. The conference included two plenary sessions, a TV Link, round tables (4), sections (8), and master classes (14). Cross-cutting issues of the conference were cultural and linguistic identity, language policy and language of power.
The report by Jane Setter (University of Reading, UK) focused on identity and the role of emphasis in it. The report by Éva Harnos (National University of Public Service, Hungary) was devoted to the relationship between the language of power and politics, and issues of language planning in the EU. There were reports of famous scientists: Vladimir I. Karasik (Pushkin State Russian Language Institute) – «Emblems of linguoculture scripts», Irina S. Alekseeva (Saint-Petersburg, Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia/ Moscow, Director of the Strategic Centre of Interpreting and Translation Education Development in Russia under the Russian Academy of Education) – «New in the training of translators». The discussion was sparked by reports of M.Y. Blokh (Moscow State Pedagogical University) – «Language as a guide of the individual to the world», L.G. Vedenina (MGIMO University) ‒ «French-speaking Canada in the struggle for cultural and linguistic identity», Anna Belikova (Television Network Russia Today)- «Russian and Eastern languages: how intercultural influence can be used in the process of language learning».
TV Link with Professor Asen Kirin (University of Georgia, USA) "COLLECTING COLLECTIONS OF RUSSIAN ART: FIVE PRIVATE GIFTS TO the GEORGIA MUSEUM OF ART, USA" was in the form of online lecture-discussion. The round tables were devoted to the topics «Innovations in language education: from theory to practice, from practice to theory», «Language and politics in the modern world», and «Active processes in languages». Special mention should be made of the Young scientist project.
The training of translators, methodological aspects of teaching foreign languages, including Russian were discussed in the sections. Interest was aroused by terminology studies and languages for special purposes, linguistics and cross-cultural communication, cognitive studies of language, discursive research, new approaches and research methods in lexicology and phraseology. It is worth noting the work of the section devoted to modern literary studies, theoretical and applied problems.
As part of the conference, a master class No. 7 was held on the topic «Formation of Linguistic and Rhetorical Competence of Students Learning a Second Languag» from representatives of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The results of the project on the line of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Kazakhstan were highlighted (the head - Zharkynbekova Sh. K., Professor, Ph. D.). Master class on behalf of the authors: Zharkynbekova Sh. K., Abylkhasova K. S., master's student of the 2nd year of study, conducted by the project officer, Professor of the Department of Russian Philology, Ph. D. Urazaeva K. B.
