Professor of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Director of the Geotechnical Institute, Dr.Tech.Sc. Askar Zhussupbekov participated as a keynote lecturer at the 1st International Geotechnical Conference in Baghdad (Iraq), as well as at the Geo-Congress 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota (the USA) at the end of February and the beginning of March, 2020.
An international conference was held in Iraq at the Baghdad University. About 800 participants from various universities and research organizations of Iraq and other countries around the world attended at the conference. Prof. Dr. Imad Hussein Al-Hussaini (President of the Baghdad University), Prof. Dr. Saba Al-Khafaji (Dean of the College of Engineering), Dr. Mahdi O. Karkush (President of the Iraq Geotechnical Association) and Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov (President of the Kazakhstan Geotechnical Association) gave the welcome addresses at the Opening Ceremony of the 1st International Geotechnical Conference in Baghdad (Iraq).
Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov reported about the activities of ISSMGE in the Asian region at the Opening Ceremony, as well as about the program of the upcoming 17th Asian Regional Geotechnical Conference, which will be held in Nur-Sultan in August, 2023.
Futher, invited professors made presentation as the keynote lecturers such as the Head of the Department of Geotechnics of the Saint-Petersburg State University of the Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Vice-President of the Russian Geotechnical Society, Dr.Tech.Sc., Prof. Rashid Mangushev introduced the Study of the foundations of historical buildings and structures of the cultural heritage of Saint-Petersburg, Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov (L.N. Gumilyov ENU) outlined the details of the geotechnical construction and testing of piles in difficult ground conditions of Kazakhstan and Russia, Professor, Dr. Kazem Fakhrian (Iran) explained the research of the influence of initial anisotropy, stress path and principal stress rotation on monotonic behavior of clean and mixed sands.
In addition, Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov participated at the Geo-Congress 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the USA (number of participants is about 1,500 people) and on the return trip to Kazakhstan he gave a lecture for postgraduate students at the Columbia University (New-York) on the analysis of the work of bored and driven composite piles in problematic soils of the projects of LRT (Nur-Sultan) and the seaport of Prorva (Western Kazakhstan).
Prof. Hoe Ling as a Chairman of workshop (the Columbia University) noted that Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Construction of the Columbia University in the years of 2011 and 2012 with team of PhD Students of L.N. Gumilyov ENU. As well Prof. Victor Kaliakin (the University of Delaware, the USA) also participated at this seminar and had a discussion for future scientific and technical cooperation with L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
At the end of speech, Prof. Askar Zhussupbekov invited American colleagues and postgraduate students to participate at the 17th Asian Regional Geotechnical Conference and Exhibition, which will be held in August 2023 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
