ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov - school-gymnasium № 22: interaction model
On March 11, 2024, a methodological seminar on the topic “Cultural approach to the study of Russian literature at school” was held at school-gymnasium №. 22. The participants of the event were the methodological association of literature teachers of the school-gymnasium, teachers of the Department of Russian Philology and final year students of the specialty “Russian language and literature” of the Faculty of Philology.
The choice of the topic of the seminar was determined primarily by its relevance in the modern education system, where the priority is the student’s personality, his inner world, and the conditioning of the life experience gained by emotional and value relationships. All of the above, of course, can be implemented in literature lessons, which cannot be studied in isolation from the entire culture.
Raikhan Kanatovna Dyusembekova, a teacher of Russian language and literature of the highest category at school-gymnasium №. 22, highlighted the problem of the cultural approach in the context of a modern lesson in Russian literature. According to the teacher, a literary text should be considered as a cultural universe, a unique cultural cosmos, penetrating into the artistic cosmos of various cultural layers. She is convinced that it is the cultural context when studying literary classics that allows students to more deeply comprehend the author’s thought and the peculiarity of the author’s worldview, helping to advance them to the world of culture.
Aigul Kuandykovna Rakhimova, a teacher of Russian language and literature of the highest category at school-gymnasium №. 22, spoke with the problem of a cultural approach in the context of a modern Russian language lesson. The literature teacher believes that the Russian language is a worldview subject that ensures the unity and interaction of language, culture, and personality in the process of learning and development of this personality. Indeed, the basis of modern “culture-appropriate” educational concepts and approaches to teaching is the awareness of the inextricability of connections in the cultural triad of language – culture – society. She presented fragments of lessons that corresponded to the problem of the seminar.
Candidate of Philological Sciences, acting Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology of ENU named after. L.N. Gumileva M.E. Zhapanova spoke about aspects of the implementation of the cultural approach in the textbooks “Russian Literature” with updated educational content. She presented a review of school textbooks “Russian Literature” for grades 10 and 11 by different authors, where literature fruitfully interacts with other forms of art. She dwelled in detail on the section “Love and Honor” of the textbook “Russian Literature” for the 8th grade by G.Z. Shashkina, O.A. Anishchenko, V.V. Schmeltzer. Turning to the topic “William Shakespeare”, she noted that the introductory article to the section refers to a stanza from a poem by A. Mickiewicz, a reproduction of I. Repin’s painting “Summer Landscape”, images from world literature of Orpheus and Eurydice, Leili and Majnun, Kyz Zhibek and Tulegen and others, here the authors of the textbook provide information about the first developers of the plot of the tragedy, the writer Luigi da Porto and the poet Arthur Brooke. The culture-forming headings of the textbook “At a literary crossroads” and “On the way to understanding the text” are filled with tasks on the problem of the seminar. Thanks to them, eighth-graders get acquainted with the “Shakespearean question”, the term “Renaissance”, the monument to Juliet in Verona, reproductions of paintings by Thomas Dixey “Juliet” and Francesco Aietz “Romeo and Juliet”, meaningful material about the life of William Shakespeare’s masterpiece in theater and cinema. In a word, W. Shakespeare’s “Romeo and
Juliet” is considered in the textbook as a cultural universe, a unique cultural cosmos.
For 4th year students, participation in a methodologically oriented seminar was their debut. If Anna Mitina presented a mind map based on the article by V.A. Domansky "Culturological approach to the study of literature." Then Amurtaeva Dilnaz and Basina Alexandra presented material from a small amount of their own experience gained during the period of teaching practice, where they successfully introduced one of the techniques of the cultural approach to the study of literature - intratextual connections between literature and other arts. Shulepova Lyubov also presented her own experience. This is a fragment of a lesson where her students created a historical and cultural commentary on the works of N.S. Leskova “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” and A.N. Ostrovsky "The Thunderstorm".
It should be noted that the methodological seminars of the department at the gymnasium school are systematic and effective. Young teachers from Tazhin Nargiz Erlakyzy and Lesbay Zhansaya Shokhankyzy, graduates of our faculty, took an active part in its organization and implementation.
