ENU Rector took part in “Universities and the Future” forum in Moscow
Rector of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Vice-President of the Eurasian Association of Universities, President of the Council of Rectors of Universities of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sydykov spoke at the international forum “Universities and the Future”, held at the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow).
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek took part in the forum.
In his speech, Yerlan Sydykov spoke about the role of the Eurasian Association of Universities (EAU) as a basis for deepening network cooperation. Speaking about the need to intensify the work of universities in Central Asia within the framework of the Eurasian Association of Universities, ENU Rector proposed the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University as a hub (coordinator) for this work, as well as to hold visiting congresses of the EAU in various countries, including in Central Asia.
The President of the Council of Rectors of Universities of Kazakhstan also made proposals for the further promotion of Eurasianism.
“Taking into account the established productive cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Association of Universities and the need for its development, we propose to create a Scientific base of scientists’ works on climate change issues in the Eurasian region, which will allow accumulating intellectual resources and prospects in this field of interdisciplinary knowledge,” Yerlan Sydykov said.
As it was noted, society and universities are facing new challenges related to global warming, which affects every region, every country. In this regard, ENU Rector proposed to allocate funds for joint research on combating the effects of global warming and events in the Eurasian region with the involvement of experts and scientists on this topic.
Yerlan Sydykov separately focused on the development of cooperation with M. Lomonosov Moscow State University, expressing hope for its further support in new projects, including joint training of specialists in the implementation of artificial intelligence, robotics, and industrial ecology.
ENU Rector also invited university students participating in the forum to participate in the academic mobility program “Welcome to ENU”, considering that they are the driver and motivator of the development of sustainable cooperation between the universities of the Association.
It is worth noting that ENU is also developing cooperation with universities in China. Thus, the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University became the venue for the 6th International Forum on Humanitarian Exchanges and Cooperation between China and Central Asian countries, as well as the Forum of Publishing Cooperation between China and Central Asia.
Regional cooperation among the Central Asian countries is being strengthened, and a number of projects are being implemented. Thus, ENU branches have been established at Osh State University (Kyrgyzstan) and M. Osimi Tajik Technical University.
Within the framework of the forum, a trilateral agreement was signed among ENU, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and Beijing Polytechnic Institute in order to train personnel under the triple diploma program.
Rector of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Peking University Gong Qihuang, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities (Jordan) Amr Ezzat Salama, Rector of the Belarusian State University Andrei Korol, President of Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University Issa H. Al Ansari also spoke at the plenary session of the forum.
The plenary session of the forum was attended by more than 100 rectors and representatives of foreign universities of China, Vietnam, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Egypt and other countries.
The forum participants outlined priority areas for joint work aimed at deepening international relations in the field of education and science.
