At the XVI session of Kazakhstan People's Assembly, held on October, 20, 2010, the Head of State N.A. Nazarbayev announced a proposal to create “The Centre of studying interethnic relations” at L.N. Gumilev ENU.
To speed the task of the Head of State “Centre for the researching interethnic relations and tolerance of Kazakhstan People's Assembly”, acting on the basis of L.N. Gumilev ENU - scientific, educational and cultural centre, where the specialists from various fields are concentrated: historians, political scientists, psychologists, teachers and sociologists.
Aim and Objectives
The main aim and mission of the Centre for Interethnic Relations and tolerance ANK (hereinafter – the Centre) is: Assistance of strengthening of national unity in Kazakhstan, development of harmonious interethnic relations, tolerance and interfaith harmony; Implementation of a comprehensive study, monitoring, analysis, expert evaluation, and also prediction of interethnic relations in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Participation in the development of theory and practical proposals to improve Kazakhstan's model of interethnic tolerance, social harmony and the whole sphere of interethnic relations; Scientific and expert support of Kazakhstan People's Assembly, promoting effective implementation of the state national policy.
To achieve these goals the Centre sets the following tasks: interaction with the scientific-expert council to Kazakhstan People's Assembly, other research, educational and expert organizations carrying out examination and analysis of sphere of interethnic and interfaith relations; carrying out scientific research activities, preparation of analytical projects; organizing and conducting basic scientific research, applied projects, public opinion polls; scientific-practical conferences, panel discussions, seminars, “round tables” and other socially significant organizational and practical measures; interaction with government agencies, public institutes and other scientific organizations; cooperation with international organizations in the field of scientific and educational and expert cooperation; to attract highly qualified professionals to achieve the objectives of the Centre; participation in educational activities and retraining of specialists in the field of ethnic relations.
