The institute consists of research groups on studying of modern actual problems of the Kazakh journalism and its historical experience.

Participation in grants and tenders of the Ministry of education and science and Ministry of communications and information; Edition of the scientific popular literature devoted to history and modern actual problems of journalism; Participation and organization of international and republican scientific conferences and forums; Conducting a card file, gathering, ordering and analysis of proceedings on journalism, and profound studying and research of problems of modern Kazakhstan journalism with the purpose of assistance to development of a domestic journalistic science.
In 2008 there was the three-volume edition «Kazakh journalism». The first volume under the name is «Kazakh press», the second volume is «Kazakh television», and the third volume is «Kazakh radio». The academic work devoted to modern actual problems of journalism has caused a special resonance and has wide success among students and scientists, in the environment of journalistic community.
The first release of Institute on studying of problems of journalism – the textbook «The theory and practice radio journalism», have highly appreciated and students and the faculty of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian national university have warmly apprehended. The textbook is written according to the last confirmed typical program. On conditions of credit technology of training in each chapter there are modules with questions and answers to them, the list of the necessary literature, plans of term papers, themes of seminar employment with a complex of questions and answers. This book can serve as the sample for the future textbooks.
For 2010-2011, there were 10 volume academic collections at «Alash kosemsozi» on state to the program «Cultural heritage». The collection includes articles from newspapers and magazines the XX centuries published in the beginning and translated from the Arabian drawing on Cyrillic’s: «Sholpan» (1-2 volume), «Zhas Тurkestan» (3-4 volume), «Sana» (5 volume), «Tan» (6-7 volume), «Abay» (8 volume), «Saryarka» (9-10 volume).
Not one of newspapers and magazines of that century entered in 10 volume academic collections completely haven't remained in archives of our country. For example: 1929-1939 in France and in Berlin the magazine «Zhas Тurkestan», under outstanding figure the Alash Mustafa Shokay where articles about national independence, the native earth, science and education, language were published was published. The edition original has remained only at university of Colombia the USA, and copies in Turkey. Till this time only separate articles of Mustafa Shokay were investigated, and the collection included all publications of magazine «Zhas Тurkestan».
Performance of projects, participation in the state and international programs: For 2007-2009, within the limits of the program «National idea as a basis of steady development of Kazakhstan» the Ministry of Education and sciences are carried out researches on the theme «Gathering, ordering, analysis and publication of publicist product of Alash figures as a source of national idea». Within three years the publicity materials published in first quarter of the XX century, were collected on following themes: «Heritage of Alash: problems of the alphabet», «Heritage of Alash: problem of the ground», «Heritage of Alash: a problem of religion». The project has been successfully completed; the volume of financing has made 5 million tenge.
For 2010-2011, within the limits of the program "Cultural heritage" researches of publicity product of Alash figures in Kazakh periodicals of the end of XIX - the beginning of XX centuries on a theme «Finding and transliteration from Arabian into Cyrillic’s of the publicity heritage, edition of the academic collections». The edition of 10 volume academic collections at «Alash kosemsozi» which includes articles translated from Arabian into Cyrillic’s, from newspapers and magazines: «Sholpan», «Zhas Turkestan», «Sana», «Tan», «Abay», «Saryarka».
These invaluable works which «Alash kosemsozi» were published a series, have huge value for the Kazakh literature and domestic journalism, and also for public and the humanities.
Members of the World organization on a mass communication and journalism ORBICOM at the UNESCO, heads of faculties of UNESCO and professors of UNESCO are only two scientists from the CIS countries: the dean of faculty of journalism of the Moscow State University it Ya.N. Zassursky and director of Institute on studying problems of journalism, professor N.O. Omashev ORBICOM annually carries out the conferences devoted to actual problems of modern journalism in different countries of the world. Since 1995 N. Omashev as constant member of ORBICOM has participated in international conferences: Las Vegas (USA), Paris (France), Montreal (Canada), Barcelona (Spain), Seoul (South Korea), Moscow (Russia), etc., with reports on a modern journalism in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. These reports are published in magazine "Orbicom" of the World organization on a mass communication and journalism.
