On November 26-27, 2019, the Kazan hosted the International Forum “How universities can embrace digital transformation”, organized by the Times Higher Education Agency in conjunction with the Kazan Federal University (Russia). L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was represented by a delegation consisting of G.T. Merzadinova, Vice-Rector for Research, Zh.K. Nurbekova, Director of the Digitalization Institute, N.N. Nurmukhametov, Deputy Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, N.S. Mukataev, Director of the Department of Informatization and E.B. Nurzhanov, Head of Information Technology Department.
Forum speakers were international digitalization experts Temirkhan Alishev, Phil Baty, Martin Blunt, Rafiz Burganov, Tatyana Ershova, Jonh Foley, Said Hussein, Lachin Italmazova, Lauri J Rvilehto, Amy Lin, Nigel Mongan, Will Pearson and others. As part of the dialogue, issues of digitalization of educational processes, the management of digital transformation of universities, the future of digital learning, technological innovation and much more were considered. Practitioners held master classes, offering their cases and their solutions.
The largest agency “Times Higher Education”, which forms the rating of universities around the world, purposefully acted as one of the organizers of the event. Being the company behind the most influential university ranking in the world and having almost fifty years of experience as a source of analysis and understanding of higher education, they have unprecedented experience in relation to the trends that underlie the activities of universities. Data and comparison tools are used by many of the most prestigious universities in the world to help them achieve their strategic goals.
Recent decades have created challenges and difficulties between the modern university as a social institution and the world of digital technologies. The accelerating pace of change in the world makes us rethink the learning process, and market requirements update the set of skills and competencies of specialists. When planning a large-scale transformation of education, it is vital to consider all the components of a concept, strategy, and decision to ensure the effective use of technology by teachers and students.
The participants of the ENU delegation together with the leadership of the Institute of Economics and Finance Management held a discussion on the organization of the educational process in the conditions of the Bologna process of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, with a view to joint implementation of educational programs and the formation of modern approaches to training.
Participation in the International Forum made it possible to get acquainted with the best examples of digital models of the educational environment, to adopt the experience and ideas of experts on creating an innovative higher education space.
