Round table “Hydrogen energy: prospects and search for a hydrogen energy concept for Kazakhstan”
As part of the assistance of the Ministry of Energy, the Center for Energy Aspects of Kazakhstan and the Transport and Energy Faculty of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, a round table dedicated to hydrogen energy was held on March 27, 2024. The event brought together experts from government agencies, industry representatives, scientific research institutes, as well as ENU students.
The round table was moderated by Almaz Abildaev, director of the Center for Energy Aspects of Kazakhstan.
In his welcoming speech, ENU Rector Erlan Sydykov emphasized the long-term scientific research of university scientists in the field of hydrogen energy, as well as the support of scientific research from the university.
Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov noted the relevance of the topic of hydrogen energy for Kazakhstan and announced the development of a corresponding document, as well as a plan to achieve carbon neutrality and decarbonization of the economy by 2060.
The experience of developing hydrogen energy in Germany was presented by the head of the office of hydrogen diplomacy of the German Foreign Ministry in Kazakhstan, Manuel Andres. He shared Germany's strategy in the field of hydrogen energy and expressed confidence in Kazakhstan's potential to use green hydrogen to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The event also featured speeches by Timur Zhantikin, General Director of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, on the role of nuclear power plants in green energy, ENU Professor Kairat Kuterbekov on highly efficient hydrogen energy technologies and the creation of the H2-hub, as well as the Director of the Department of Alternative Energy of KMG LLP Engineering" by Daulet Zhakupov on the prospects for the development of hydrogen energy in Kazakhstan.
The discussion also included the participation of teaching and research staff from the departments of Thermal Power Engineering and Electric Power Engineering.
In general, the round table has become an important forum for the exchange of views and experience in the field of hydrogen energy, as well as for developing a concept for the development of this industry in Kazakhstan.
