ENU Public Reception Office: Rector of the University Yerlan Sydykov supported his students’ ideas and suggestions

ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov held a reception for students in the Public Reception Office of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University. 3-4 year students, as well as master’s and doctoral students came to the meeting with the university head to ask him questions, offer ideas and make suggestions for improving the university’s activities.
And the students turned out to have a lot of them, as well as of a different nature. For example, Meruyert Rakhimberdy, a 2nd year master’s student of the EP “Restaurant and Hotel Business”", asked the Rector if it was possible to combine master’s scholarship studies and an official job?
According to Yerlan Sydykov, according to the Law “On Education”, combining work with study is allowed.
“According to Article 47, paragraph 4, students and learners of all full-time educational institutions, regardless of departmental subordination, have the right to combine study with work in their free time,” the Rector said.
A 2nd year master’s student of the EP “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” Aknur Zhangabek asked a question about the newly established Higher School of Education at ENU: “Since September this year, we belong to the Higher School of Education. Are there plans to separate the Higher School of Education into a separate pedagogical institute or university? What is the purpose of foudning this school?”
Answering this question, ENU Rector stressed that Astana has long overdue the need to train highly qualified professional teaching staff, which is currently in short supply in the capital city. It was for this purpose, according to him, that the Higher School of Education was founded at ENU. "The Higher School of Education is an educational, scientific, methodological structural unit of the university that trains competitive specialists with higher fundamental education," Ye.Sydykov said, adding that it is time to launch a separate pedagogical institute in the capital city.
How can a doctoral student receive financial assistance to create laboratory equipment – this question was addressed to the ENU Rector by a 1st-year doctoral student of the EP: “Thermal Power Engineering” Aizhan Omirbayeva.
As stated in the Rector’s reply, the university allocates funding for internships and publications (partially) to each doctoral student, as well as the entire material and technical fund of the university (laboratories, centers, etc.) is provided for doctoral students.
Doctoral student Simbat Zhumabai is concerned about how the university helps with employment after completing doctoral studies?
According to Ye.Sydykov, following the Law "On Education" of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the Rules for allocating young specialists to work (...), those who studied in the specialty-related doctoral program on the basis of a state educational order, work in government agencies, higher educational institutions, scientific organizations, scientific units, autonomous educational organizations "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools", in organizations of education for at least three years after completion of the term of study.
Job placement of doctors of philosophy (PhD) is carried out by the Job Placement Commission according to the applications of the university departments, government agencies and scientific organizations. In addition, in order to promote the employment of graduates, the university holds job fairs, conferences, sightseeing tours at enterprises, seminars, master classes.
Azamat Nurseitov, a doctoral student of the EP “Philology: Russian Philology”, asked the rector if there are any plans to introduce artificial intelligence into the organization of the educational process.
According to Yerlan Sydykov, within the framework of the ENU digital transformation program for 2025-29, the university plans to implement the project "Intelligent Learning Management System", which will adapt to the individual needs of each student, providing flexible learning trajectories and improving the quality of educational services through the use of artificial intelligence.
At the end of the meeting, Salomat Ismoilova, a 1st-yearmaster’s student with a major in Tourism, who came to ENU under an intergovernmental agreement from Tajikistan, thanked the Rector for an interesting and informative conversation and for a unique opportunity to study at a leading Kazakhstani university.
“For me, it's not just education - it's a chance to grow, develop and build a better future for myself and my country. I deeply appreciate the support you provide. The conditions created for us in the dormitory allow us to fully focus on our studies and find friends among students from different countries.
I sincerely thank you for your care and attention. I am sure that the years spent here will not only strengthen my proficiency, but also contribute to friendship and cooperation between our peoples,” the master’s student from Tajikistan said.
