World's Leading Scientists Discussed Current Issues in Mathematical Science at ENU

The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted the international scientific conference "Integral Operators in Function Spaces and Harmonic Analysis," dedicated to the anniversary of Nurzhan Bokaev, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Professor.
Along with Kazakhstani scientists, leading researchers from the Czech Republic, Russia, Azerbaijan, Italy, and Georgia participated in the international conference. They delivered presentations on current issues in modern mathematical science.
Opening the conference, Daniyar Kozybayev, Dean of ENU’s Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, noted the faculty's role in training highly qualified scientific personnel and developing international cooperation. Today, the faculty actively implements joint educational programs with foreign universities, including PhD training under dual-degree programs.
Scientists widely known in the global scientific community spoke at the plenary session. Among them were Professor Yerlan Nursultanov from the Kazakhstan branch of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Professor Amiran Gogatishvili from the Czech Academy of Sciences, Professor Aibat Eshkeyev from the Academician E.A. Buketov Karaganda Research University, Professor Viktor Burenkov from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Etibar Penakhov, representative of the Institute of Applied Mathematics at Baku State University, and Professor Lyubomira Softova from the University of Salerno (Italy).
During the conference, along with modern trends in mathematics, the applications of artificial intelligence technologies were discussed. Nurlan Temirbekov, Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented a report on machine learning methods for geological data processing and mineral deposit forecasting. Research results were also presented by Professor Malkhaz Bakuradze from Tbilisi State University, ENU Professor Lawrence Serge, Professor Bakytzhan Kanguzhin from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Professor Galym Akishev from the Kazakhstan branch of Moscow State University.
The conference continued its work in the sections "Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis" and "Differential Equations and Their Applications," where researchers discussed modern scientific achievements and promising areas for further research.
As part of the conference, Ardak Beisenbai, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, read out congratulatory messages from Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Yerlan Sydykov, ENU Rector.
In addition, by decision of the Scientific Council, Nurzhan Bokayev was awarded the "Gumilyov" medal for his contribution to the development of science and higher education.
"You are not only an outstanding scientist but also a wise mentor, a talented organizer, and a person who helps the younger generation find their path in science. Your many years of hard work and high personal qualities will always serve as an example for colleagues and students," the university Rector's congratulatory address reads.
It is worth noting that the mathematical scientific community of Kazakhstan knows Nurzhan Bokayev well as an eminent scientist. He graduated from high school with a gold medal and, in 1977, completed his studies with honors at the Faculty of Mathematics of the Academician E.A. Buketov Karaganda State University. His scientific journey began with an internship at the Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis Department of Moscow State University, and then continued in postgraduate school. He successfully defended his candidate's thesis in 1985 and his doctoral dissertation in 1996.
Nurzhan Bokaev made a significant contribution to the development of the theory of series in generalized Walsh and Haar systems, playing an important role in the formation of domestic mathematical science. Under his scientific supervision, 17 dissertations have been defended, including 6 candidate's and 11 PhD theses. Today, his students successfully work in leading universities and research centers in Kazakhstan and foreign countries.
